A women delegation representing the Tibet Women’s Football organisation has been invited to play in our DISCOVER FOOTBALL festival. It is for the first time since its formation in 2011 that the Tibetan women football team in exile is travelling abroad.

Essentially a women’s empowerment programme, Tibet Women Football organises combined football and empowerment camps twice yearly, and supports the formation of girls’ club teams at refugee settlements throughout India.

Seven Tibetan women footballers will play in the festival and they are with their coach Gompo Dorjee and program manager Cassie Childers of the US, who started the Tibet women’s football within the exile Tibetan community in India in 2011. It has since extended the opportunity to play football to more than 1,000 young Tibetan women and girls.
